Clever, as it's then not just exploring around without a point but rather, you explore to unravel the story behind the game.
I really like the story, it's not that obvious at the beginning but later in the game the plot plays an important role. Subnautica really is one the great indie early access success stories, a game thats been honed to near perfection over a long gestation period on PC, with lots of input from avid fans helping. The only minor complaint is a slow start that could potentially repell some players from the exploration - you first need to gather resources, build a base and vehicles and only then the player can plan their trips around the vast world that awaits to be visited. Yeah the upgrades are cool from the 1st game i wish they merged them into Subnautica 1 at least the buildings and equipment. Subnautica: Below Zero was never intended to be a full, standalone sequel to the first Subnautica game. Below Zero has some writing changes but noticeable downgrades like the Voice Actor the writer leaving. In subnautica, you can't really expect anything and it's a constant I-didn't-expected-that feeling. I love the 1st game yes its a bit laggy near the alien site on the island but how they made it felt creepy but amazing.
